Welcome to the Townhouse
In 2005 the building at Number 10 Castle street had become a derelict eyesore, a mere 100 metres from the Castle. Originally constructed in around 1550, the Grade II listed property had through years of neglect become dangerously unstable. A beautiful and historically important building in desperate need of being rescued.
The inspiration for this project came from one of the bulding's early historical associations. Precisely 125 years ago the Rowlands Temperance Hotel opened it's doors in a bid to promote the virtues of teetotalism.
Austerity however played no part in the reincarnation of this building!
A team comprising local architects and the same London design consultancy responsible for other successful projects at the Bull was formed.
Construction lasted two years and necessitated the near complete demolition of the bulding before painstaking reappointment took place.
The outcome is a visual extravaganza of colour and texture, comfortably wrapped in the soul of a 500 year old building!
